Hilmar FFA offers serveral CDE opportunities

Dairy Cattle
   Coach - Ms.Hobby

1. Students learn to evaluate dairy cattle based on characteristics that are important to the dairy industry. 
2. Students also learn communication skills as they must deliver reasons to a judge, justifying their evaluation of the cattle.

Dairy Products    
   Coach - Mrs. Reid 

1. Students learn about milk processing and the production of dairy products.
2. Students also learn how to determine product quality by using their sense of sight, taste and smell.

Agricultural Mechanics 
    Coach - Mr. Johnston & Mr. Rios

1. Students that compete in agricultural mechanics learn and develop the necessary knowledge and skills that are associated with the construction and fabrication industry.      
2. Students take a test to demonstrate their general knowledge, and demonstrate their skills electrical, plumbing, tool sharpening, arc welding, woodworking, along with their skills in working with electrical motors and controls.

Farm Power
   Coach - Mr. Johnston

1. Designed to test a student's mechanical skills and abilities relating to power equipment used in agriculture.
2. During the event students demonstrate their general knowledge in tool and parts identification, general knowledge of power equipment, as well as demonstrate their skills in tractor operations, safety, and troubleshooting. 

Small Gas Engines 
   Coach - Mr. Rios

1. Students that compete in the small gas engines learn and develop the skills and knowledge the necessary to maintain and repair small gas engines.
2. With in the competition students are tested in the identification of parts and tools, engine theory, problem solving, and engine troubleshooting.
